Tomorrow I am hoping to get a new phone and I have decided to hop from iOS to Android. I've narrowed it down to either the Samsung Note 4 or the Nexus 6. The only issue is I cannot for the life of me make a definitive choice. Do any opponauts have any experience with either of these two phones? Any advice would be appreciated.

Have an e92 M3 for your troubles.

Samsung makes great phones from a hardware standpoint, but shitty software. I don't like them.

Get a N6. The Android experience will be less bloated and more pure.

Also, the battery life will be more than with the Note 4

I prefer the pure Android experience to the themed/bloated Samsung software, so I'd go with the Nexus 6. Nexus devices tend to get the latest Android updates first because they don't require testing and validation for a custom software layer like the offerings from Samsung, HTC, Sony, and LG would.

I had iPhone 4S before I go Nexus 5. And I will never go back.

As a developer there are a lot of things I disagree with how iOS ecosystem works. But I am not going to bother you with detail.

I would buy a Nexus 6 if they didn't try to sell it for so much more than 5. I bought the Nexus 9 (tablet) the first week it came out and gave my Nexus 7 to my mother (she is in Taiwan, with Nexus 7 she can have a proper tablet to Skype with her granddaughter.) If you use a lot of Google service, the transition is uber smooth. I thought I had to back up a lot of things to have my new device working fully functional. Nope, most things Google offers you backup in the cloud and you just log in with you Google account. No plugin iTune bullshit or $100 annual subscription iCry.

Lastly, always go with Google phone (Nexus), you want the native experience. Also you don't want whatever carrier/manufacturer's bloatware on the phone.

Nexus. I have a Galaxy S4 and the bloated Samsung Android is awful.

I considered the same phones and then went with the Nexus. I've had a few Nexus phones before and they're all still working quite happily, even the venerable HTC Nexus One!

N6 Good points: Screen is excellent, in both resolution and colour reproduction. No manufacturer bloatware, and updates as soon as they're available from the big G. Excellent battery life. Good build quality, albeit mainly plastic.

Bad points: I feel headphone volume is lacking, but then I am coming from an HTC One which tends to excel in this area. Get the right case (if needed), as the power button can easily be pressed instead of volume up/down if the case you buy has 'flush' sides. Without a case there's no mistaking the different buttons. Flashlight and camera flash are less than useless, but it does perform fairly well in mid to low light without the flash.

Hope this helps...

I have an s5 and I have to agree. My least favorite part of the phone is the sansung software. It adds nothing and only uglifies the ui. Would rather run stock.

That is a very helpful list of pros and cons. Thank you!

How do you find the size of the Nexus 6? I am leaning more towards it but I have not been able to find one to try and squeeze into my front pant pocket. I know the Note 4 fits comfortably while sitting but the Nexus is a few mm taller and I'm afraid it won't fit when I'm sitting.

That is one of the main things I like about the Nexus line of devices. It looks like everyone is suggesting the Nexus. I'll have to give it a test drive alongside the Note 4 tomorrow at the T-mobile store to make my final decision. Hopefully they have a display model of both.

Don't get your hopes up, I haven't seen a store with a Nexus device up for test-drives since the Nexus S was a thing.

I like Samsung, but the bloatware on their newer stuff has gotten out of hand, I say go with the Nexus.

Size is an issue when trying to type or navigate with one hand, but I can't say I've noticed it digging in or feeling uncomfortable while sitting, or peeking out of my pocket at all. My Alfa has quite low bucket type seats, and I'm 6'4" so I have to curl right up in there, and even over long journeys I don't notice any difference vs. my old HTC One

Get the Nexus, the skin that they use on the android software is so much easier to live with than the Note.

FWIW I have the Note 4 and I really like it. Prior iPhone user and will never look back. I haven't used the Nexus so I really have no base for comparison. All I will say is that the Note has great features, an incredible camera, decent one-handed operation, lightning fast charging, good battery life, and as of 2 months or so of ownership, I don't have a single complaint.

I've dealt with Samsung in the past and I agree with everyone here that the bloatware that is Touchwiz just isn't worth the excellent hardware. So go for the Nexus 6. That said any reason why you're looking at Phablets? I've seen many an iOS user jump to Android Phablets and immediately regret their decision due to the size and lack of experience with widgets.

LG G3. Note 4 has TouchJizz and the Nexus 6 is fucking huge.

Not to be the lone voice.......ever consider Windows Phone? The 1520 is a badass and you literally cant kill it. That goes for any WP, OS wise. I had a Lumia 928 for a couple years and it was the best phone I'd ever had. In the year before I got it I went thru at least 20 different Android phones in 5 different varieties. All would freeze or reboot or just break. Never a single problem from WP. And the app selection isnt bad, no matter what anyone says.

I've got an LG G3 now and really like it. Only reason I went back to Android is I'm stuck in a family contract thru the Dark Overlord (Verizon) that never seems to end. I would have got the 1520 but Verizon all but dropped WP. No real reason other than they didnt push them or support them well.

Just my .02

Nexus. Samsung software is a pain. Nexus will be stock Android, which is superb - especially with Lollipop.

Yeah, I briefly looked into the Lumia 930 and 830 but I could not get on board with the UI. I'm not a fan of the tiles.

What do you like about the G3? This is another phone I was considering but I was a bit worried it'd be hard to get used to the back-facing controls.

The main reason for a fable is because I figure since most of the phones out there are already getting quite large I might as well go for a phone with the nicest screen out there. I also think it would be nice to have a device that can handle phone duties like texting, emailing and talking while also dealing with occasional computer duties like taking notes, mucking about on the internet and stuff when I am too lazy to pull out my laptop.

It took me about a day to get used to the back controls. The display ROCKS! 2K display and its sharper than my 60" tv. I hate Android with a passion but it won me over.
